Master Lou's Approach
Lou
Laoshi usually starts the beginner with
Qi Gong and other basic strengthening exercises. after this students
move on to basic hand techniques that train the use of total body
force, alignment, co-ordination and connection. This too harnesses
the internal power of the body. Next comes walking
the circle. Here Lou emphasises smooth and fluid movement, as
if walking on water while the entire body twists from the inner
thigh, groin and hip areas. Lou's main method of developing fighting
technique in his students is through practice of the 64 straight-line
post heaven sets. This practice conditions the body, develops internal
power and ingrains the correct principles of movement and alignment.
Lou views this practice as developing principles of motion that
can be applied in a variety of situations and not as individual
techniques.
