Aarvo Tucker's visit to Glasgow in 1993 at the invitation of Larry Butler providing a welcome introduction for local enthusiasts John Mackie and Danny Doherty. However it was another two years before they had the opportunity (graciously provided by TCUGB's Ronnie Robertson) to Invite Aarvo's bagua brother, Ed Hines, to take a class in Glasgow. Ed Continued with monthly visits hosted by Grant Glendinning of Scottish Wu Shu for about another year before this fizzled out and John and Danny undertook monthly visits to Leeds.
Started in 1994/5, a Ba Gua interest group struggled to spread an awareness of the benefits of Baguazhang. The group donated to Glasgow City Libraries copies of Lou De Xiu's videos; 'The Principles of Ba Gua Fighting' (with Tim Cartmell) and 'Gao Style Ba Gua Zhang' (with Aarvo Tucker).
From 1995 the Glasgow Ba Gua Group had regular visits from Aarvo and Ed, which were thoroughly enjoyed and encouraged development. Whilst the group only met one evening weekly a very comprehensive curriculum was covered including Qi Gung, hand and body strengthening exercises, palm changes, linear sets and their applications, and meditation.
The Glasgow class was suspended in June 2006 when the convener was diagnosed with cancer. The class was re-established in 2008 and in the absence of Aarvo Tucker Ed Hines became, once again, the visiting instructor. The Glasgow class closed May 2010.
